    How IoT is Transforming Healthcare?

When we talk about healthcare, the first thing you visualize is hospitals and medical practitioners. A lot has been made possible in the field due to the availability of IoT devices.

Traditionally as well, doctors always used to rely on a variety of investigations to diagnose a patient symptom before prescribing medicines. Today, with the advent of IoT, a lot of these parameters can be monitored in real time and can significantly aid patient rehab and recovery. In the healthcare space of hospitals and medical practitioners, service providers, who can analyze data captured from smart IoT devices and report inferences are making rapid strides.

There are a number of areas that IoT health care sensors are disrupting:

    • Elder care: From tracking wandering patients to monitoring the engagement and activities of elderly individuals in nursing homes and hospitals, elder care is a big market for IoT medical devices.
    • Patient data-gathering: This is the most mature field in health care but continues to grow with new innovations in the IoT world.
    • Real-time location: Today, hospitals are using IoT technology to track both people and assets at a lower cost than ever before.

IoT is slowly allowing for the health care industry to reduce its dependency on humans (and their associated human errors). Even though IoT medical devices may not always impress the everyday consumer, they are steadily improving health care and providing early diagnosis and treatment of serious issues. Having said that though, there are quite a few IoT health care challenges that application developers have to overcome, which include:

    HEALTH CARE PRIVACY & HIPAA

Security is important for the IoT industry as a whole, but it’s even more important when you add in patient privacy. The regulations that medical apps need to uphold make innovation in the IoT medical device field a challenge. HIPAA—the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act—sets the standard for protecting patient data that is created, received, maintained, or transmitted electronically. Privacy is always an issue with health records, but since we now have sensors automatically collecting and storing our medical data, security is even more critical. This means anyone creating an IoT medical device has to keep patient privacy as a top priority.

    IT INTEGRATION & CYBER-SECURITY

Cyber-security is a major concern in every sector, and the health care industry is no different. In March 2016, for example, health care group MedStar was a victim in a ransomware attack that rendered their computer systems—and vital patient records—unusable. The company had to resort to using paper records until they could restore their systems.

All this to say, hospitals today are even more hesitant to put anything on their network that is not well-vetted—and since IoT medical devices are the frontier of connectivity and many new applications are hitting the marketplace regularly, they often aren’t well-vetted. But keep in mind that not all technology needs to be deployed within the IT network of a hospital.

It’s hard to predict where IoT medical devices are headed next—but we are certain that with the rise in interest in IoT and the money being spent in health care innovations, good things are bound to happen in this space.

If you’re looking for opportunities, health care is a great place to be. We’re excited to see what kind of innovations—from connectivity to data privacy, to application architecture—come into this space.

Pratiti technologies is focused on the IoT space and has worked extensively in the healthcare sector, helping both medical practitioners as well as health care providers leveraging IoT for improving patient care.

The core team at Pratiti has over 25 years of industry experience and we have built some great competencies in the Cloud Computing Technologies and Data Analytics. We offer flexible partnership models, through which we partner with you to build scalable technology solutions to bring your innovation faster to market.

  • When Should Startups Consider Outsourcing Their Product Development?

When Should Startups Consider Outsourcing Their Product Development?

As the world got more connected, startups have started to outsource product development to global talents. The apprehensions surrounding outsourcing are no more valid as high-quality resources have become available on-demand, leading to product quality and faster time to market.

Startups can now instantly gain a competitive edge by outsourcing their product conceptualization, designing, and development to focus on other key aspects of running a business.

Sometimes startups rely on themselves to develop the product, market their services, recruit talent, and more. This leaves a huge dent on their resources and exhausts in-house employees, who have to wear multiple hats to keep the company moving.

Outsourcing their product development is the ideal choice they have, fortunately.

When to consider Outsourced Product Development

If you are a startup with a killer product idea, here are some of the scenarios when you should consider outsourcing your product development –

    1. When You Need to Validate your Product Idea

Validating the idea for a tech product is a must if you don’t want to waste resources building something that gets no traction at the end. By developing a POC or prototype followed by an MVP (Minimum Viable Product), you can test the feasibility and success of your product before investing a lot into it.

An outsourced product development team can be your best bet at developing a functional MVP that gives you an opportunity to test the waters without investing significantly in it. Use an outsourced development team to cut back on hiring expenses and the hassle associated with recruiting.

    1. When You Need Scalability

The demand for human resources in the initial stages of your start-up is not linear. Neither is it predictable. Working with an offshore software development company will give you the much-needed flexibility to scale your resource requirement up and down without having to worry about costs a lot.

Outsourced software product development services give you the agility even if you are not entirely sure how many developers or testers you may need to work on your product at various stages. You can simply choose to scale up and down as you go.

    1. When You Need Access to Domain Expertise

Outsourced software development companies typically work with organizations in a myriad of industries. Choose one that has the core domain expertise necessary to build your product.

This team will be able to understand the underlying business model beyond the programming part of your product. It is essential for your development team to know the real-world use case of your product so they can make suggestions as to what will lead to your product’s success. Such a team will also be able to help you with your product definition.

    1. When Top-Notch Tech Expertise is Important

As offshore software development companies work to build several software applications every year, their employees have the level of tech expertise you can’t feasibly hire. For example, you might find it hard to hire good technical teams with expertise in cutting-edge technologies such as IoT, Mobility, Cloud, and AI. However, you could get ready access to this talent with an offshore software development company.

So, hire their best talent on contract and use their knowledge and experience to build your product. Most of the outsourced product development partners come with a team of individuals well-versed with how the product development process works and what it takes for a product to hit the ground running.

Use an outsourced product development team that has the core tech expertise you want to leverage now or in the future.

    1. When You are Developing a Complex Product

It might feel overwhelming to think about managing a complex tech product in-house. This is where an outsourced product development team can help you. Outsourcing helps you streamline the development of a complex product.

An outsourced software development company can better handle development complexity by breaking it down into manageable parts and taking care of each separately by using modern methodologies such as Agile and DevOps. With a diverse set of skills and domain expertise, they can cater to the various aspects of your product seamlessly – including design, development, testing, and deployment.

This way, you can free up your internal resources to focus on other core purposes, such as marketing, customer service, and lead generation.

    1. When you Want to Optimize your Costs

It costs less to work with an outsourced product development company in India than to work with a local company or team. This is why most businesses are now looking to hire reliable talent for offshore software product development in India.

Besides that, you don’t need to spend time on the recruitment process, and you get to the market faster. Moreover, you also save on the space and IT infrastructure you would have to otherwise allocate on in-house resources, slashing costs further.

    1. When you are looking for Enhanced ROI

An offshore development team develops a robust product for your business, taking care of factors including but not limited to its security, performance, and scalability. Therefore, outsourced software product development brings enhanced ROI for your business.

You gain from investing in the right development team and spend a lot lesser than you would with an in-house team of developers and testers. Accessing world-class capabilities also helps improve your ROI significantly.

    1. When you need Business Thinking

Often, startup owners need to wear many hats as they get involved in several integral aspects of running their business. At the same time, when product development lies in-house, it can get tricky to maintain focus on these areas.

An ideal outsourced product development partner will have its leadership team involved in their product definition and design. With their industry expertise, domain knowledge, and technology acumen, they will help you transform your idea into outstanding products without taking up too much of your bandwidth.

As the world gets more and more global, even startups need to cater to a global audience. With an in-house local team, you only know what your customers there need. However, by working with offshore software product development companies in India and other countries, you gain a global perspective on your target market and engage people from around the world.

Pratiti can be your ideal partner for outsourced product development if you are looking for services in SMAC, IoT, and AI with Agile and DevOps development processes.

  • Why we insist on POC with our Customers?

Why we insist on POC with our Customers?

Product development is a journey, it involves ideation, evaluation, analysis, development, testing, and commercialization. This process requires a deep level of involvement from the core team and larger investment in terms of time, money and efforts. That is why we at Pratiti technologies insist on a POC before entering into full-fledged product development.

A POC (Proof of Concept) can help you create a consensus among key stakeholders, find acceptance amongst end-users, showcase your solution and its features to the decision-makers and help you create the pitch for the investors.

There are many more reasons why creating a POC or a prototype should be the first step before detailed product development. Read on: Why POC is necessary for your product development journey?

The Technical Feasibility of the Project

Before entering a full-fledged development, it is important to know if a product idea is technically feasible. For instance – when a Mumbai-based bike servicing company decided to launch their mobile app for a seamless customer and mechanic connection, they were not sure if the member card functionality will work effectively on all major smartphones and tablets. And even if it did, will it pull customer’s upcoming services from the server and run smoothly on all major mobiles.

Building a POC for this specific section and checking the member card functionality features solved the assumptions and the company could decide on which method and technology to use to create the module.

    To Test Market Acceptance

Many times early end-user feedback can help determine the readiness of the target market. We have observed that at times many innovators become too self-centered w.r.t to the idea and lose the focus from the problem and needs of the end customer. The right market feedback helps solidify the business case for the idea and the product.

    Save Time and Cost

The POC takes care of any high-risk areas by identifying them beforehand so that the required changes to the feature, architecture or flow can be made, cutting down on the rework post-development.

For instance, the practical representation of architecture through POC can calm worried stakeholders and cut down on the related discussions that can arise during the development period, thus saving time amidst the development phase. The POC also lets you do a cost analysis to help you outline the overall development cost. Presenting this upfront gives you better control on the cost, development time and the possibility of changes.

    To Get Ready for Investors

For startups, we at Pratiti routinely recommend a POC, so that you have a solid case to showcase to your investors. Getting an investor on board at an early stage can take care of the early financial needs and secure the uncertainty. A successful POC can aid your investor pitch and help you garner better ROI from the ready product.

Create a Better Understanding of the Outsourced Product Development Partner

When you work with a new product development partner, there will always be differences in the ways of working, doing a pilot or POC can go a long way in helping you understand the knowledge skills and professionalism of the tech partner. You will understand the processes the development partner follows and attitude, capabilities of the team.

At Pratiti technologies we follow a unique tech development process which has continuously delivered results for our customers, we have detailed out these steps in this guide to help you ensure successful tech product development. You may download the guide here,

    Conclusion

Doing a POC before entering a full-scale product development helps decide the feasibility of the idea, understand the product objectives, help evaluate the market to verify the solution acceptance, help develop full-proof product development plan. So, whether you are developing an IT or IoT product do your POC and ensure successful outcomes.

  • How to Choose a Technology Stack to Empower Your Software Product Development

How to Choose a Technology Stack to Empower Your Software Product Development

A tech stack is a combination of programming language, framework, developer tools, and the deployment strategy.

Deciding on a tech stack is critical for the development of the application. However, choosing the right tech stack is a tedious task; evaluation of the right language – Java, PHP or Python, deciding the appropriate database and front-end applications, and picking a robust and scalable framework requires checking trade-offs benefits and limitations in detail.

Why choosing the right tech stack is important?

Using a technology stack is essential to expedite product development. Understanding how to choose the right mix of backend and front-end technologies can not only ensure faster development but also robust, scalable and separable product,

Here are a few pointers that can help you choose the right tech stack to empower your software product development.

    1. Choose tech stack based on business needs

choice of tech stack depends on the business context, sector and criticality of the product, For eg, if you are just starting, you may want to have a quicker time-to-market; Java, will be the first consideration as the learning time is less, there are multiple readily available modules that you can plug and play with. If you are building a product for the compliance industry, then your preference should be a tech stack that has a robust architecture to adhere to compliance and rules and if the product is mission critical, a failsafe / failover mechanism will be required.

    1. Keep the future in mind

The product roadmap and future evolutions need to be kept in mind. The tech stack that you choose should need to be able to cater to your business’ future needs like – new feature and module additions, integration with external solutions, the capability to store and manage increasing data, and the possibilities of maintaining archived data for years, additions.

    1. Start simple before getting Techy

It is ideal to test your idea first. Before you get into a thorough search of the right tech stack, build a prototype to know what your development limitations or what additional checks are you need to list down when looking for the right tech stack. For instance, if you know that most of your end users will be using a low-end phone, your tech stack should include tech and framework that caters to low-end phones, and this can be known via a prototype to test the market. Also, refer to this guide on Guide to successful tech product development – What you need to know. We list out a unique tech development process that delivers consistent results.

    1. Pick Robust

New technologies keep coming and some may sustain, some may not. Hence it is important that you pick a tech stack that has been there in the market for a while and has steadily grown and is robust and mature.

    1. Scalable and Separable

With technologies getting better and changing so quickly, what is preferred today, may not be tomorrow. Your front end, backend, tech pieces should be scalable if required and easy to separate as well, to allow integration with a new technology that may come in the next few years.

    1. Define Budget for the tech stack and developers too

Availability of developers is an essential point to be factored in. You choose the right tech stack based on other factors, but your recruitment team has a challenge finding the right candidates and in your budget. It is not only about paying for the tech stack, but you also should be able to afford the developers.

We hope the above thoughts help you in your journey of tech development and you are now more aware of the choices involved in choosing a tech stack.

In a nutshell – the choice of a technology stack is largely driven by the business requirement and complexity of the application, industry the application will cater to, budget, users of the product/application, and the future evolution plan of the product. Consider all these points before finalizing a tech stack.

  • Do This to Ensure 100% Improvement in IoT Product Development

Do This to Ensure 100% Improvement in IoT Product Development

From computing devices to connecting devices and generating enormous data. However, this data is rendered useless if it is collected, stored, and analyzed effectively.

IoT (Internet of Things) enables organizations to drive innovations through the efficient use of data. IoT capabilities, such as data analysis and automation, assist businesses with better decision-making, efficiency, and productivity.

Organizations that get IoT right, the benefits are copious. Thus, it isn’t surprising that the IoT industry is growing in leaps and bounds. As per a report by Gartner, the IoT market is projected to reach a value of USD 2.0 trillion by 2020, with 8.4 billion connected things.

That said, despite IoT’s significant growth and its priority in business decision-making, many IoT undertakings are registering stark failures.

According to a Cisco study, as high as 60% IoT initiatives fail at the proof of concept level. In the same study, only 26% of companies agreed that they had a successful IoT project.

Almost three-quarters of all IoT projects are failing. There are myriad factors contributing to this failure, some of these being an unclear objective, poor choice of technology, interoperability issues, or simply undefined project requirements.

Based on experience with developing, launching, and expanding the IoT projects across organizations, we share some of the most essential to-dos that can help you in successful IoT software product developments and implementation.

    1. Avoid saving costs at the wrong place

Prototyping enables companies to consider the needs, inputs, and requests of clients, and swiftly demonstrate, via mockups and wireframes, what their IoT product will look like while leaving enough headroom for iterations. So do not try to save costs by skipping prototyping, this will only increase your woes by adding additional expenses in the form iterations and change requests at the later stage.

    2. Don’t expect a ready platform to ease development

The irony about picking an IoT development platform is that selecting an appropriate platform can enable your project, but the selection of the platform can be extremely testing.

Though many users believe that off-the-shelf platforms can never go wrong since they have been tried and tested, this belief may not be always true.

Off-the-shelf platforms have a generic design, which has been made for a wide range of domains, like home automation, renewable energy, etc. Moreover, you will have to rely on the vendor for firmware up-gradation and security patch updates, etc.

Some research can help understand what will suit your need better an off the shelf platform or a bottom-up development using open source technologies.

    3. Scalability should be considered well in advance

IoT is a network of connected objects sharing and exchanging data continuously via the Internet. With technology advancements, the motives driving IoT product development are evolving from simple tasks, such as data analysis, to more complex functions, such as smart networks.
This quintessential shift demands an IoT product that is highly scalable, horizontally (expanding network to accommodate an increasing number of connected objects) as well as vertically (building the efficiency of an already-existing software/hardware by attaching more resources).
Therefore, scalability is a functionality that should be considered right from the beginning of product development.

    4. Data security cannot be compromised

With IoT comes the upside that we are able to achieve and do things that could not have been thought of before, e.g., switching on your washing machine using your cellphone. However, this continuous digital connectivity also poses higher security vulnerabilities.

Research has proved that hacking can result in malicious access to critical data. So data security should be key right from product development. Security should be resilient from the most basic (password protection) to the most advanced levels (platform security).

Employ functionalities such as hardware security modules, key manager, end-to-end encryption, machine-to-machine authentication, API security, and cloud security, to ensure your IoT solution has the toughest security perimeter. Talk to us to know more in this regard,

    5. Clear deliverables for hassle-free development

Product engineering – designing, prototyping, developing, and implementing – involves various members and teams, including stakeholders.

Communication and collaboration are key to product engineering. It is crucial that all stakeholders and teams are aware and informed well in advance about how the success of the final developed product is going to be measured.

At Pratiti we use Agile and DevOps to ensure this clarity of objectives, proper planning, and timely reviews. All this ensures that everyone involved in the development process is on the same page and understands the expectations.

    Conclusion

IoT or Software product development is an extensive process that requires attention to every detail.  Working with experts helps to smoothen your tech journey as nothing can replace knowledge, experience and sound advice.

Over the years we have developed a unique tech development process that ensures consistent results for many of our clients. To know more about this process you may. Download this “GUIDE TO SUCCESSFUL TECH PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT”. Hope you find this guide helpful.

  • How Can Organizations Derive True Value Out of Their Data?

How Can Organizations Derive True Value Out of Their Data?

Across industries, organizations do spend a lot of time, analyzing the data that is generated on an ongoing basis. Most of this analysis happens post-facto, and not in real time, and decisions made based on the data usually have a significant lag in implementation as well. In this age of the all-consuming IoT (Internet Of Things), what if the data can be available in real time and decisions can be based on powerful analytics and reporting tools, which can save you millions, improve stickiness with the customer by providing better customer experience and enable monetization through new revenue streams.
It is hard to find any piece of equipment that can’t be hooked up to the all-consuming IoT. Several of these devices are low cost and they also add low value, unless organizations find a way to capture and leverage the created data. And these devices, by their sheer number, are generating huge volumes of data. How many organizations will have the required infrastructure to capture or analyze this information? or the people with the skills to determine how best to leverage this data to drive real business value? This IoT enabled data revolution is not just about finding ways to drive business efficiency or improve customer service; it is about creating data streams that underpin new collaborative business models and can be action-ably monetized.

    Driving the Data-driven Experience

Of course, many organizations have been capturing machine data for years. Telecom assets, O&M companies, for example, have fault information about their various assets, especially energy assets. Today sensors are helping them to automate corrective maintenance right from placing a call to a technician to monitoring need of resources like Diesel etc This is helping businesses to outperform with respect to the SLAs, that they have with Telecom service providers
Same fault information can further be analyzed and integrated with preventive maintenance plans and schedule to further improve up-time of telecom towers. Predictive analytics by integrating operating conditions, environmental conditions and basic faults logs can deliver better up-time of telecom assets
Current health status of various assets is valuable information to OEMs (Original equipment manufacturer) who are interested in either negotiating AMCs or wanting to replace parts or entire assets. O&M companies can very effectively monetize this data and analytics by establishing business collaboration with such OEMs.

    Understanding Value

Of course, with so much potential for the IoT driven information and so many different areas to explore, it is tough for companies to priorities and understands how best to drive value from this data. IoT is not a magic bullet; nor is big data analytics. And only a tiny minority of the very largest companies can justify a multi-million-dollar investment in the infrastructure, tools and analytic skills required to understand and prioritize the new business opportunities.

This is why the cloud analytics model is so compelling – from the investment in secured cloud infrastructure globally to the creation of dedicated analytics tools designed specifically to handle and drive value from vast data volumes. Organizations now have the chance to embrace IoT and explore these new data resources with minimal investment – opting for a monthly fee model to gain access to both the technology and data experts required to help prioritize activity and identify new data-driven data streams.

    Conclusion

IoT is revolutionary, but not in the way perceived by many organizations today. Organizations that have never considered the chance to monetize their data now have the opportunity to mine these rich new data streams. Indeed, many of what have traditionally been core business processes could soon be superseded in value by the demonetization of IoT provided information.

The challenge for organizations is not about simply slapping sensors on every piece of equipment but to actively look at the new data streams that will be generated and their potential value, both within the business and to third parties. It is those companies that explore cloud analytics, which begin to think differently about the way data is used and actively embrace the new collaborative world that will gain huge potential value of IoT, from new business processes to entire new data-driven revenue streams.

  • 5 Tips To Get Most Out Of Tech Product Development

5 Tips To Get Most Out Of Tech Product Development

Data shows, only 10% of tech startups are successful wherein others fail. The reasons why most tech product developments don’t succeed can range from lack of planning and a shortage of funding to saturated demand or excessive competition in a given segment.

Interestingly, the failures show less connection with technology and more to do human element. These aspects include the Maturity of the team, understanding of the business, maturity of the product idea, etc.

To develop the right product good old business techniques, play a vital role

    • Competition analysis
    • Market demand analysis
    • Study of buyer behavior, needs
    • Marketing plan

While the above holds true for any business, These critical can ensure you get the best out of your new product Read on:-

    1. Begin with defining the product

A critical starting point in new product development is to define the product, its features, expected behavior, etc. Pratiti’s product definition process includes the following questions:
    • Who is the end customer? What is the customer’s business problem?
    • What needs and the audience will the new product cater to to.?
    • How will the product cater to and solve the specific business challenge and meet needs?
    • What is it that the proposed product can do which any existing competitor product in the market cannot? What advantages does this bring for the customer/end user?

The result of these and many questions is an “Experience canvas”, an experience canvas helps clarify what problem your project is trying to solve, the customer(s) you’re solving it for, and what success looks like.

    2. Choosing the right tech stack

The age-old debate of open source vs licensed software is the first hurdle to tackle. These decisions can be fairly easy to tackle given the cost and economic constraints of a start-up. Compatibility, convenience, and ease of availability are some of the other aspects that always work in favor of open source.

Tech stack is the combination of programming languages, tools, and frameworks that the developer uses to create web and mobile applications. Leveraging microservices architecture and using it to your advantage is something that most start-ups don’t pay enough attention to. An experienced tech team can help to make these decisions fairly simpler.

    3. Always look for agile development

With Agile we can ensure that the requirements and the solutions move hand-in-hand ensuring a flexible and rapid solution to a change. Organizations have made the shift from traditional waterfall models to agile due to its obvious advantages.

Key reasons to adopt agile include shortening time-to-market, realizing an early ROI, incorporating customer feedback in the development cycle and reducing the risks of failure.

    4. Move ahead with DevOps adoption: Automation of Manual Tasks

The rise of DevOps has been as fast as the rise of term-Digital Transformation. ‘Dev’ refers to software application development, and ‘Ops’ refers to IT operations. With DevOps, many companies like Pratiti Technology ensure that the development and operations teams break down the silos and work in tandem for faster innovation and deployment

    5. Think Cloud

Cloud adoption is more than choosing a technology; it enables getting ready for the future. While the SaaS model has given rise to a host of new products and companies, it also means that organizations leveraging cloud technology are scalable and are exposed to associated benefits such as analytics.

  • How Predictive Maintenance Can Earn You Dollars?

How Predictive Maintenance Can Earn You Dollars?

Across organizations, it is common to see curtailed capital expenditure spending predictively, especially on expensive assets. With ‘everything as a service’ models becoming rampant, at several places, these capital expenditure items are already making way for working capital per month costs or per usage costs. Whichever way you look at it, it makes sense to exploit and fully utilize expensive assets. Downtime can be expensive, in pure play terms as well as based on the impact it may cause to the overall activities.

To prevent downtime, predictive maintenance has been around for quite some time now. In most instances, though predictive maintenance is done post-facto when the asset is brought in for servicing, or it is already causing some problems. Leveraging Internet of Things (IoT), a lot of this predictive maintenance can be on-going and can ensure higher utilization and availability of the asset. Today predictive maintenance is all about detecting the problems & errors before they occur. Traditional business intelligence (BI) is no longer enough.

Today there are a number of products & tools providing real-time analytics. These comb through vast quantities of data and finds outliers all at rapid speed, providing businesses with greater insight without the usual time delays. The promise and potential are huge. Several manufacturing industries like automotive, off-highway, industrial equipment are starting to link this vision of fully automated factories.

    Managing up-time challenges for a manufacturer of off-highway vehicles – A case

For a company manufacturing off-highway vehicles and forklift trucks, managing up-time of these vehicles was never an area that they were directly involved in. But with customers expecting high up-time, it was critical that they got in and worked on a solution that would minimize downtime for its customers. This meant additional cost and planting additional electronic devices, which will track and monitor key performing metrics of the vehicle. But the value that this created for the customers was huge. Based on the parameters captured, data was analyzed at the back end and service reminders were created for the customers as well to the nearest service center. Based on this, the vehicle could be brought in and refurbished without causing any unplanned downtime.

Reducing downtime of machines, apart from saving a lot of time is synonymous with creating more revenue opportunities for the organization.

    In Summary

We agree on one thing though, that for most organizations, the path is not entirely clear. Depending on organization policies, there may be security concerns, challenges over what data should be sent and collected and of course bringing in some standardization among different locations.

Knowing that machine is going to have a problem, being able to prevent it before it occurs, or before the problem has become severe, is something that will definitely increase the productivity of every machine. When all of your machines are running on 100% productivity, it’s an ideal situation.

  • Redefining “Responsive” Through Real-Time Engagement Tracking

Redefining “Responsive” Through Real-Time Engagement Tracking

We are very excited about how advancements in technology is responsive to customer experience to the next level. Here is our take on what can – and will – be done in the next couple of years. Businesses are constantly thinking of ways to provide a better experience to their customers. The broader goal, of course, is to engage customers – and keep them engaged. In a macro sense, engagement means stickiness, loyalty and advocacy – which translate into repeat business and even referrals. In a micro sense, engagement is about starting a conversation with the customer, listening deeply to the verbal as well as non-verbal responses, and drawing the right insights into what the real needs and wants are. Chinese gem traders were known to be sensitive even to buyers’ pupil dilation!

In the digital world however, while the transaction part of many processes has been automated, the relationship part is often diluted. A case in point is the common frustration with never-ending IVR menus – while the caller would be so much more comfortable talking to a real person. Similarly, digital strategists must bear in mind that in the consumer space, shopping is not just a commercial process but equally a social experience. Breakthroughs in emotion detection technologies are now letting us correct this irony to an extent. Just like we can read body language, these technologies allow software to now understand whether the customer is happy, confused, interested and so on. Consider how such advances can enhance responsiveness in virtual (online) interactions as well as in real ones —

Education:  If a student in an online course is confused, the software can step back and spend more time on elementary concepts. If a student is tired, it could announce a break. If bored, it could take a real problem rather than continue with dry theory. Brick-and-mortar schools could also use such technologies to gauge the overall engagement level of a class.

Corporate: Decades ago, time and motion studies started helping predict and improve productivity in manufacturing industries. More recently, special software products are letting enterprises understand how their employees are spending time in knowledge industries. However, this is of limited use, since a couple of hours of “being in the zone” produce more than 8 hours of disengaged work. So it would be much more useful to use technology that tracks engagement.

Shopping: It is well known that online advertising hooks into browsing behavior, particularly on e-commerce sites. However, such advertising can be targeted even better, by distinguishing between casual online window shopping, and serious pre-shopping analysis. Going ahead, it might even be possible to adjust promotions accordingly – a la Chinese

Wellness: Awareness is usually the first and often the most difficult step in stress and anger management. What if our smart-phone becomes a silent observer who gently nudges us when we’re starting to stress. Similarly, it can highlight chronic boredom, which is often a precursor of depression.

We at Pratiti are excited about these new possibilities to humanize technology, and thus take engagement and experience to the next level. Let us know what you think.

  • IoT: Creating a More Efficient Healthcare System

IoT: Creating a More Efficient Healthcare System

Imagine if you are a relative of a chronically ill patient who has forgotten to take his medicine and his condition is worsening. You receive the alert about the changing health condition, are able to know the location of the patient, quickly check some of their vital parameters remotely to see if hospitalization is becoming necessary. Not only this, by while you are gathering all this information, your car’s navigation system can inform you, which of the nearest hospitals have a free bed and create the clearest traffic route to get there in a jiffy. This is not storied from a sci-fi movie but something which is now being made possible by the Internet of Things (IoT).

“Internet of Things (IoT) refers to any physical object embedded with technology capable of exchanging data connected together over the Internet.”

IoT is creating a more efficient healthcare system in terms of time, energy and cost. One area where this technology could prove transformative is in healthcare.

    Care at Home

There are people all over the world whose health may suffer because they don’t have ready access to effective health monitoring. But small, powerful wireless solutions connected through the IoT are now making it possible for monitoring to come to these patients instead of vice-versa.

Let’s check this example for a patient suffering from dementia if we can equip them with sensors/ wearable and their health could be monitored remotely by their caretakers hopefully the patient can be allowed to stay within their own homes for longer. This can prevent or delay the need for costly long-term care in nursing homes plus reduce the need for unplanned hospital admissions and Doctor visits.

Similarly, for elderly, we can detect the onset of a wide range of health issues, from high blood pressure to early signs of delirium. Emergency admissions could be reduced – with proactive health systems in place to address the problems before they become more serious or irreversible.
The data that could be taken from a network of IoT devices will also be able to significantly lower margins of error thus making remote health diagnosis and treatment possible thus dramatically cutting down on the necessity for routine reviews and checkups. Patients could be allowed to leave hospitals and clinics earlier, as professionals are enabled to monitor them from home and health specialists from around the world can provide consultation or even diagnosis from hundreds of miles away rather than keeping them in hospitals for observation.

    Care in Hospitals

Hospitalized patients whose physiological status requires close attention can be constantly monitored using IoT-driven, non-invasive monitoring. This type of solution employs sensors to collect comprehensive physiological information and uses gateways and the cloud to analyze and store the information and then send the analyzed data remotely to caregivers for further analysis and review. It replaces the process of having a health professional come by at regular intervals to check the patient’s vital signs, instead of providing a continuous automated flow of information. In this way, it simultaneously improves the quality of care through constant attention and lowers the cost of care by eliminating the need for a caregiver to actively engage in data collection and analysis.

Using IoT devices patients with chronic diseases may be less likely to develop complications with an early diagnosis, for example, patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases who are being treated with digitalis could be monitored around the clock to prevent drug intoxication. Arrhythmia that is randomly seen on an EKG could be easily detected, and EKG data indicating heart hypoxemia could lead to faster detection of cardiac issues. The data collected may also enable a more preventive approach to healthcare by providing information for people to make healthier choices.

  • Meeting ‘Time To Market’ Targets On Your Innovations

Meeting ‘Time To Market’ Targets On Your Innovations

It is so refreshing to be meeting up with so many different entrepreneurs in digital transformation space and understanding some of their innovation. It is amazing to see the energy levels of all these entrepreneurs and the level of commitment that they have for the ideas that they are chasing.

While ideas are great, it takes two important things for them to be able to realize their dreams and create a working business model. One is of course the right level of funding and the other is the right technology mastery to ensure that ideas can see the light of the day in the most efficient manner possible.

To add to the above point, every innovation has a shelf life, which is typically based on how soon it can be copied or aped by another competitor. If the other company has better branding muscle and reach to the target market and they can bring out the innovation to market sooner, then you end up losing your market share. Worse still, if you end up taking too much time, before you get the product to market, the market may already be cluttered or the requirement for such a solution might not even exist.

The bottom line is that time is of essence and it is extremely important that you are able to meet ‘time to market’ targets on your innovations.

A lot of companies take the outsourcing approach to several of their non-core functions to make sure that they can free up their time for their core activities. Nowadays, there are a lot of companies which also partner with others for technology expertise. This increasingly makes sense, given the time pressure you are under. Rather than having to source, on-board, retain talent, you can engage with firms, that have specialization in specific technology areas that you need. You can also ride on the management and industry experience of some of the founders in the process, something which you cannot simply manage by just hiring people.

Pratiti technologies is focused on helping entrepreneurs realize their innovations with certainty. The core team at Pratiti has over 25 years of industry experience and we have built some great competencies in the Cloud Computing Technologies and Data Analytics. We offer flexible partnership models, through which we partner with you to build scalable technology solutions to bring your innovation faster to market.

  • The Role of SMART Grids in Transforming Utilities in the U.S

The Role of SMART Grids in Transforming Utilities in the U.S

The electrical smart grid in the United States experiences more blackouts than that of any other developed nation. Much of the physical equipment on the grids has aged to the point of obsolescence. And most industry experts would agree that the American utility industry has reached a critical point. And update in the infrastructure is the need of the hour.

Pratiti Technologies is an innovative solution provider focusing on SMAC and IoT driven digital transformation. Pratiti help customers realize their innovations through deep technical expertise and agile development approach

At the same time, utilities are also experiencing a transformation to their business models. Green energy sources, referred to as Distributed Energy Resources, are turning the centralized power generation and distribution model inside out.

    SMART GRIDs

A ‘smart grid’ offers us a SMART alternative. A Smart grid can recognize, circumvent and even prevent problems before they occur. Ultimately, smart infrastructure will improve the reliability and resiliency of the power grid.

The smart grid offers benefits to utility companies, such as detection of energy theft or loss, outage management, an efficient balance between energy demand and supply and improved demand response. This becomes even more critical as we integrate renewable energy in the grid, Renewable energy resources are known to be more unreliable in the sense that a steady output 24*7 cannot be expected and change in wind speed, solar radiation needs to be factored in planning energy Management.

Utilities will benefit through better asset utilization and power management by seeing real-time demand spikes and potential grid failures. The result is that the companies can prevent blackouts before they occur and optimize power generation based on actual demand.

The benefit of SMART GRIDs to Consumers

Smart Grid will interface with and also benefit consumers via Smart Meters and Home Area Networks (HAN). HAN’s. Consumers will be able to see near real-time energy use information and also take advantage of ‘time-of-use’ pricing. For example, appliances that consume a lot of energy such as washers and dryers and water heaters can automatically be set to operate during low-cost periods, reducing the cost to the consumer. This places control in the hands of the consumer.

Distributed energy resources, demand/response digital customer connections, net metering and the Internet of Things are all here to stay. Business models have to adjust to survive in this rapidly evolving landscape. That’s exactly why utilities are among the leaders in IoT adoption. At Pratiti we help Utilities and product technology supplier circumvent problems associated with this technology adoption.
